When I was a kid in Michigan, my grandmother would get sweet rolls from Hinkel’s bakery in her home town of Otsego. The best was a soft peanut butter roll. These were shaped into rectangles and drizzled with white icing. The dough was like danish, but more yeasty and chewy. The peanut butter “ribbon” (not unlike a mild peanut butter fudge) was folded throughout the dough. It would be great to make these at home. Hinkel’s is still in business, but the original owners and recipes are long gone. If anyone has any thoughts about a recipe for these rolls, I’d love to read them.

The rolls sound delicious! You’ve got me looking…how many years ago were you a kid in Michigan? Thanks!

It was great! This would have been in the late 60s through late 70s.
